Lanzarote in a Day from Fuerteventura: Guide & Prices

3 min read

A 45-minute boat ride separates the dunes of Corralejo from the volcanoes of Timanfaya, and plenty of visitors staying in Fuerteventura never clock it: you can see the best of Lanzarote in a single day, without changing hotels or losing a night of holiday. Two organised excursions run daily with the ferry, the transport around the island and the park entrance already sorted. Here's what each one includes, what it costs and what not to miss.

Getting there: the ferry from Corralejo

The crossing runs by boat from the port of Corralejo, in northern Fuerteventura, to Playa Blanca, in southern Lanzarote: about 45 minutes each way. You can buy the ferry ticket separately and get around on your own afterwards, but for a single day an organised excursion works out better. The return ferry, the coach around Lanzarote and the guide are all included, so you don't lose time sorting out inter-island logistics and you make the most of every hour on land.

Volcano Express: the essentials in 7 hours

The Volcano Express to Lanzarote picks up in Caleta de Fuste at 8:50am and in Corralejo at 9:45am, and spends the day on the south of the island: the lunar landscape of Timanfaya National Park, a malvasía wine tasting in La Geria (vines grown in volcanic ash pits, each sheltered by its own stone wall), the Aloe Vera museum and the Green Lagoon of El Golfo with Los Hervideros, before boarding again in Playa Blanca. It's 7 hours for €69 per adult and €55 per child, with a guide, the return ferry and the wine tasting included.

Full day: Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes

If you'd rather see the volcanic north of the island too, the full-day excursion to Lanzarote adds two extra hours to the same Timanfaya and La Geria stops: Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes, the two volcanic tunnels César Manrique turned into cultural spaces in northern Lanzarote. It's 9 hours for €89 per adult and €55 per child, with the same pickup times in Caleta de Fuste and Corralejo.

What not to miss

  1. Timanfaya National Park: the volcanic landscape born from the 1730 to 1736 eruptions, only open to visitors on an organised route.
  2. La Geria: the wine region where vines grow in pits of volcanic ash, each one sheltered by its own stone wall.
  3. El Golfo and Los Hervideros: the west coast, where the sea crashes against black lava cliffs next to the Green Lagoon of the Charco de los Clicos.
  4. Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes (full-day excursion only): the volcanic tunnels in the north turned into a cultural space by César Manrique.

Tips for the day

  1. Bring your ID card or passport: it's mandatory for the inter-island crossing, even for EU residents.
  2. Book ahead in high season: the slots with pickup in Caleta de Fuste and Corralejo sell out first.
  3. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a light layer: most of the day is spent outdoors, on black lava with little shade.
  4. Neither excursion is suitable for reduced mobility or unaccompanied minors.
