In Costa Adeje, on the south coast of Tenerife, there's a water park that TripAdvisor users have voted the best in the world more than once. Siam Park recreates a Thai village among subtropical gardens and slides, and it's one of those plans that works just as well for thrill seekers as for anyone who just wants to spend the day floating down the lazy river.
The park was built with decoration brought directly from Thailand (temples, teak wood carvings and statues) to recreate the country's architecture in real detail, which is unusual for a water park. It belongs to the same group as Loro Parque, on the north of the island, so it shares that same care for setting and the tropical garden surrounding the rides.
Tower of Power is the ride that identifies the park from outside: a 28 metre tower with a slide that runs through a shark tank before the final drop. Alongside it are other fast drop slides like Singha and Naga Racer, built for anyone chasing the most intense part of the park before moving on to the calmer areas.
Siam Beach is the park's big wave pool, with swells reaching three metres and real sand along the shore, and it's one of the busiest spots during the middle of the day. To slow things down there's the Mai Thai River, a lazy river that winds through much of the site among the vegetation, and the Volcano kids' zone, built for younger visitors with gentle slides and water play.
Siam Park is in Costa Adeje, next to the Siam Mall shopping centre, on the south coast of Tenerife. If you're staying around Playa de las Américas or Los Cristianos, it's just a few minutes by car or taxi, and it's a little over twenty minutes by motorway from Tenerife South Airport (Reina Sofía).
