In detail

Discover La Palma's new volcano and its aftermath as you visit the youngest piece of land in the Canaries, created in 2021. See the lava flows and climb the Tajogaite on this guided hiking route.

Start the hike next to the area's first historic volcano, Tacande, recorded in 1480 and known as the burnt mountain. Ascend through Cumbre Vieja and admire the breathtaking landscape that formed in just 85 days of eruption.

Walk along the volcano's back rim on an 8-kilometre route over a comfortable trail with views of the eruption's raw power (without climbing into the crater). The elevation change is -300m/+300m.

Learn how the lava destroyed more than 3,000 buildings and forests and formed a new peninsula on the coast. See where the molten rock carved its path and created an entirely new volcanic landscape.
